This is a quirky tale of an 11 year old boy, bestowed with the legendary name of “Kassim Selamat”. Kassim Selamat believes that he is special because of his melodramatic and highly romanticized name. This believe is strengthened when he realises that adults react to his name with giggles and sometimes awe. Kassim Selamat leads a charmed life as the youngest son in a very loving yet eccentric family. His parents are incredibly loving and seem to have come straight out of a 1960s black and white P Ramlee movie. His sister, a Malay programme tv addict and an expert in the region’s Malay tv shows, is an incredibly talented aspiring filmmaker with an eye for the dramatic. His brother, a former rebel-without-a-cause and is now a reformed youth-at-risk individual, works as a telemarketer. Influenced by the exceptional experiences around him, Kassim builds a world of his own, where the lines between fantasy and reality always seem to be blurred. Each week is an adventure where Kassim will find out the answers to all of his growing-up curiosities. Kassim sees the world as very complex. He is triggered by these complexities and will go in search of the answers. Interestingly the answers will usually come back to the family to solve happily. While his adorable, loving grandfather loves to sing old Malay songs. Kassim’s life revolves around 2 important environments – school & home. He often sees his world as a very complex place. Each week is an adventure for Kassim who finds answers to all of his growing-up curiosities, triggered by him trying to understand and making sense of the situation around him. In this journey Kassim is also exposed to and learns about the different facets & values unique to the Malay culture. Interestingly a lot of answers to his “problem” is collectively solved by the family. Eventually Kassim’s colourful life takes him through his ambition to be a television star.
